Hints of Spring...

No emu chicks yet. But what a beautiful day at the farm. Getting excited about Spring! #3Feathersemus
Putting on a brave face...

Well we didn't escape the weather unscathed. Last week, due to one of the power failures or a surge thereafter, our incubators kicked off one night almost halfway through the incubation period. Woke up to cold incubators. We think we have lost about 48 eggs. We are hoping to recoup as our birds are still laying and we have new eggs incubating now, but boy that takes the wind out of your sails. Lets hope for a long laying season this year. The joys and sorrows of raising animals.

Our first few trays of eggs are in the incubator! We are watching carefully, but with a 52 day incubation period it is a waiting game. First batch due March 12--how perfect.

To our wonderful friend and artist, Stuart Dittbrenner, we give a much belated public thank you for the beautiful gold leaf overlay emu egg. It is one of our treasures (but we don't show it off at the markets anymore--right Stu?) See it in person by coming to our next Spring Visit Day on Saturday, June 1, 2019. Check out his amazing other work at stu-art.us and at several local galleries!
